Arthur Emmett Cooley

Arthur "Duck" Cooley, a fugitive of the law was wanted in Fayette County, Pennsylvania and in Morgantown, West Virginia for about 4 years before they found him dead with a gun shot wound to the head. He always carried a automatic and he always said that he would never be taken alive. He was examining his .32 caliber gun when it went off. The bullet went through his left eyelid taking a upward course, it went through his brain. Even though his death leaves a mystery because when he died, he died at his girls house, near Smithfield, Pennslyvania.

He was alleged to have been a member of the Cooley Gang that tried to hold up and rob the Baltimore and Ohio railroad station in Star City, WV in 1921. During the attempted hold up, State Trooper Fred Davis was seriously injuried. At the time six men was arrested and sent to Moundsville Penitentiary for the crime, but Cooley escaped.

He was wanted in Fayette County, Pennslyvania on several counts in connection with holdups. And in Monongalia County, West Virginia was wanted for seven burglarys.
